The 2025 Gateway Decathlon (GWD) is an international design-build competition and public exhibition event that challenges multidisciplinary teams of students, faculty, and industry partners to design and construct innovative, sustainable housing units. In November 2023, GWD selected the University of Houston (UH) as one of the twelve collegiate teams participating in the inaugural competition. The UH team invites corporate and industry partners to contribute to the success of our proposal through sponsorship and in-kind donations that support the fabrication, delivery, and installation of our project.
An Iconic Venue
The competition will be held in early October 2025, adjacent to the iconic Gateway Arch National Park in St. Louis, Missouri. The contest judging consists of ten diverse categories covering today’s most pressing questions about the future of housing. The Competition Village, where all twelve housing units are assembled, creates a temporary design innovation community, providing networking opportunities with leaders in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industries. The public exhibition of the competition homes will attract thousands of visitors and consumer interest worldwide. Past decathlon-type events have drawn crowds of 60 - 100,000 people over a two-week event, as well as press, providing teams, sponsors, and industry partners with significant exposure for their innovative designs and products.
GWD is located within the new Gateway South Design and Construction Innovation District. This new mixed-use redevelopment plan seeks to activate and revitalize the historically significant site, creating a sustainable growth engine and new market opportunities for innovators within the AEC industries.
